Update on the Kimberley Hospital Ward Renovation Project

Smile Foundation got involved in the paediatric burns ward at Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital, RMSH (Kimberley Hospital) when Dr Maria Giaquinto (head of the plastic and reconstructive surgery department) approached Smile Foundation to get involved in the initiative of renovating the paediatric burns ward of the hospital. Smile Foundation then approached Avela Foundation to support the initiative.
In May, the following items were completed:
- The Agreement was signed with Herman from Tops Construction
- Dr Maria of the plastics department successfully arranged to move patients to one side of the ward.
- Herman built a small drywall office for the nurses at no extra cost.
- Total demolition was done on all areas from the adults’ wards through to the Pediatrics’ section.
- The engineers signed off on all demolition.
- Gas was successfully decommissioned.
- Hubo Pty Ltd (the architectural design company) had 2 productive site visits and meetings with Dr Maria, the Engineers and Herman (Tops Construction).
- The flooring was finalized and specified with Floorworx giving 15% discount arranged by Moira Gerszt.
